Brian Lingard is now facing a charge of transportation and possession of child pornography, the US Attorney for Massachusetts said. Police arrested him on Monday, Oct. 30.
Investigators said Lingard was returning from Paris on Oct. 19 when customs agents at Boston Logan International Airport found an SD card in his phone that contained 23 images of child sexual abuse material, the prosecutor said. Two of the children had been identified by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children as child sexual abuse victims.
Agents also the SD card had photos of fully clothed children that were taken without their knowledge, police said. The images focused on the girls' butts. Metadata collected from the card show that some of the photos were taken at Shrewsbury High School, the prosecutor said.
According to his LinkedIn page, Lingard mentored the high school's FIRST Robotics Team 467 since 2013. The school took his name and photo off the website Monday.
Lingard faces a minimum of five years in prison and up to 20 years if convicted.
